Editorial printing in Medellín

Our specialty: books, magazines, newspapers and catalogs with editorial craft, printed in Medellín and shipped nationwide. We are a lithography print shop with a true editorial sensibility, not just another printer.

Hardcover and softcover books, magazines and an open book showing its interior pages on a table in natural light: the editorial line of Rocco Gráficas in Medellín
01

Design and content, well matched

For large volumes of information, editorial services stand out as the ideal blend of design and content that, handled correctly, will deliver your clients and readers a piece worthy of collection. They suit both personal projects (literature, photography) and corporate ones (newspapers, catalogs and magazines).

If you have an idea along these lines, browse our editorial portfolio. At Rocco we are ready to help you.

02

Binding: the body your book needs

Softcover (perfect-bound paperback). The editorial classic. The book block can be glued with notch binding — the spine is scored so the hot-melt glue penetrates and grips firmly — or section-sewn, which gives the book greater opening and more durability. Glue-only binding works very well when the content allows generous inner margins or does not require the book to open completely; for pieces handled wide open every day — a planner, a coloring book — we recommend sewing.

Hardcover. The book block is joined to a case built separately: industrial board sandwiched with the covering material. The result is a rigid, strong body — the format of books meant to be kept.

Double-O wire binding. The material is punched and a metal wire joins the pages: full opening. Ideal for notebooks, notepads and planners; it can carry light covers or sandwiched hardcovers — and with a full wrap-around cover you get the hidden-wire effect.

03

Print runs: digital or offset?

Quantity decides the system. For short runs — below roughly 50 to 80 units, depending on the product — we recommend digital printing: total investment stays low and no plates are needed. For larger quantities we produce in offset lithography, where the cost per copy drops as the run grows.

We handle both low and high quantities, with workshop honesty: products with complex construction — a hardcover book, a box with finishes — do not always allow producing one or very few units. Tell your advisor about your case and they will confirm what is possible.

04

Papers and finishes

Interior pages: the most used are white bond in 75 and 90 gsm and cream papers in 60, 70 and 90 gsm — cream is the favorite for long-form reading, warm and easy on the eyes.

Covers: coated (propalcote) and enamel papers, mainly laminated to protect the book's durability, or fine board stocks depending on the client's needs and the type of content.

Available finishes: matte, gloss or soft-touch lamination (smooth, scratch-resistant feel), hot foil stamping, embossing and debossing, flaps and spot UV.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to print a book?

There is no single rate: the price depends on six variables — number of copies, page count, open and closed size, interior and cover papers, binding and finishes. Two useful references: in short runs (digital printing) the unit cost is higher but the total investment is low; in offset, the cost per copy drops as the run grows. Send us those details through the form and you will receive your quote, usually within 24 hours or less.

What is the minimum quantity to print a book?

We handle both low and high quantities. For short runs — below roughly 50 to 80 units, depending on the product — we produce in digital printing; above that, in offset lithography. One honest exception: products with complex construction, such as hardcover books or boxes, do not always allow producing one or very few units. Your advisor will confirm what is possible for your case.

What editorial projects do you print?

Both personal projects (literature, photography) and corporate ones (newspapers, catalogs and magazines). If you have an idea along these lines, browse our editorial portfolio: at Rocco we are ready to help you.

How many pages should my publication have?

For magazines, catalogs and newspapers, the interior pages and/or leaves must be multiples of 4. For books, the number of pages is one of the details needed for the quote, along with the open and closed size.

How long does it take to print a book or publication?

The average for publications and mid-size runs is 10 to 15 business days, and it varies with the page count, the number of copies and the current production load — which is why the deadline is agreed with your advisor before sending the job to production. If you are in a hurry, a rush option can always be negotiated within our production capacity, agreed in advance during the consultation.

How should I deliver the files for my book?

Two paths. (A) A print-ready PDF: 2 mm bleed on each side, CMYK color mode, black text without rich black (no contamination from the other CMYK inks), proper inner safety margins, a correct gutter margin toward the spine, and fonts converted to outlines. (B) The packaged editable files (Illustrator or InDesign, outlined, CMYK) and we take care of prepress, bleed and the rest — for very complex designs this can carry a surcharge, though it is not the usual case; review it with your advisor when sending the files.

Can you help me with the ISBN and barcode?

Yes. We specialize in editorial printing: if your book does not yet have its ISBN or barcode, we help you obtain them.

Can you support the design of my publication?

Yes. We accept your print-ready design (Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, or high-resolution PDF/JPG) or we guide you through the process, with the experience and rigor that editorial services demand.

How long does it take to get a quote?

We usually send our reply within 24 hours or less. On high-volume days it can take up to 48 hours, depending on the complexity of the order.

Do you ship outside of Medellín?

Yes, we produce and ship nationwide, right to your home or business door. Orders shipped outside of Medellín are paid in full before dispatch and the availability of the material is confirmed with photographs.
